The Death of Jesus

St. Mark's Cathedral, Venice

In this iconographic type angels carry the dead body up to Heaven along with the instruments of the passion. In this case, the only instruments are the cross and the chalice that angels used to collect the blood from Jesus' wounds.

I found the plaque in the upper gallery of the cathedral. Unfortunately there was no identifying label, and it is hard to give the work a sure date.
